Copy That!: Your Copyright Rights and Obligations
Abstract:
At Western, responsibility for copyright belongs to everyone in our multiple roles as investigators, as students, as instructors and as general members of the campus community. We are guaranteed certain privileges, set out in Canada’s Copyright Act, with respect to the works that we create. We also are accountable whenever we employ the work of others in our research, our teaching and learning and in the daily operations of the university. The ever-shifting nature of copyright in Canada makes the job of sorting out our copyright rights and obligations all the more challenging. This session will address amendments to legislation, particularly related to sound recordings; decisions of the Copyright Board and other agencies; as well as recent changes in the national copyright environment principally in high education and the impact all of this has on copyright at Western. It will highlight several of the tools and services in place at Western to assist in navigating the copyright landscape. Space will also be provided to speak to any specific copyright issues or questions.
Admission is free and open to all. Hope to see you there!
